For the Undergraduate Student

Pre-Engineering Freshmen
All engineering freshmen are under the supervision of the College of Engineering from the time they first register until they have met the admission requirements of the College.

Each pre-engineering student must select one of the four engineering programs for advising purposes. Each student is expected to follow, as nearly as permitted by his or her placement in English and Math, the curriculum for that major as outlined by the College of Engineering. A student can usually change his or her major within engineering during the freshman year without loss of credit toward a degree in engineering.

Students doing satisfactory work usually qualify for admission to the College after they have completed two semesters of full-time work in pre-engineering. A student with exceptionally high grades may qualify sooner.

Curricula
The College of Engineering offers four separate curricula at the undergraduate level. These curricula, accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), cover the traditional fields of:
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
These programs are heavily oriented towards synthesis, engineering systems, and engineering design, reflecting the applied-professional role of engineers in today's technological society.
